A World of Hurting People

Tonight, I went out to a local sandwich shop and had dinner with a couple of friends. One of my friends came emotionally distraught after just talking to her mother who lives up north. My friend told me all hurtful things her mother said to her. Their relationship has not been a good one for years. My friend told me that her grandmother said the same things to her so it seems to be a generational problem. Each generation passes down the bitterness of life to their kids who in turn pass it down to their kids.
I thought to myself as I was driving home how much the Gospel of Jesus Christ meets each of us at our point of need through sacrificial love and forgiveness and redemption. We all need to be loved and honored as human beings. The Lord built that into us. Through our sinful bent that we each inherited through our first parents, many people pass their personal sins ,insecurities and bitterness to their children.
Psychology does not fix and heal the soul. We as human beings are sinful and we know it. We have failed to live up to the moral law written in our conscience by the Triune God (Romans 2:14,15). We need grace,mercy and forgiveness that only God can provide through Jesus Christ who is the lover of our soul. He values His elect with a special covenantal love and mercy. He heals us by forgiving us of all our trespasses and imputing to us the perfect righteousness of Christ the moment we are granted repentance and faith in Christ Jesus. We are cleansed in our conscience and forgiven of all our moral guilt. It heals our sin sick heart,mind, and soul. We are then able to love others with a special agape love that only God can give. This truly breaks the generational curse of sin that is passed down through sinful habits and lifestyles from parent to children. Jesus Christ is the only true answer to our relationship problems. We are sinful and not just sick or a victim of someone else. We are sinners in need of the redemption that only Jesus can give. How the world must be filled with billions of hurting people! My friend's problem was just an example of what the time and space fall of Adam and Eve has done to the world. It not only alienated us from God. It alienated us from our fellow man,even those of our own family.
Lord, make me sensitive to the hurting people that you bring into my life everyday. Let me be able to provide the balm of Gilead to their hurt. Let me tell them of the great Physician who can heal us in our souls and make us whole again. Start with me Oh Lord. Only then can we then forgive those who trespass against us because we have been forgiven by you. We are able to show mercy because you have given us mercy. We will respond in grace toward our adversaries because you gave grace when we were at enmity with you. Save us Oh Lord from ourselves. Let our light so shine before men that they may see our good works and glorify the Father which is in heaven (Matt 5:16). I ask these things in the name of Christ my Lord and Savior Amen.
