Daily Spiritual Disciplines
At the start of every new year, I strive in my resolutions to pray, read my bible, and memorize Scripture as part of my daily spiritual disciplines. I ususally get about three weeks into the new year when I begin to fall behind a day or two, then several days, until I finally give up. As I look back on my yearly failures, I realized one big mistake I have made was never scheduling a regular daily time for these disciplines. In other words, I never disciplined my time to be disciplined. I failed to plan, so without realizing it, it was inevitable that I would eventually fail. I look forward this year, to the joy of spiritual disciplines. I eventually want to include fasting with prayer on a regular basis as well.
Most of my memory work in Scripture is rememorizing epistles that I once knew from memory. This year, I continue to rememorize the books of Titus, Hebrews and Jude. If the Lord gives me more time in the year after I rememorize these books, then I will begin to memorize the book of Revelation. I pray for strength of consistency and resolve as I begin my pilgrimage this year.
